Blue Badge Abuse

Disabled Blue Badge

It seems motorists have the most amusing excuses when it comes to abusing the Blue Badge scheme. This months excuse comes from a motorists from Hove in Sussex convicted of using her friend's disabled parking badge. Sheena Bajmaloo, 47, told magistrates she had used the badge because "she did not wish to miss getting her nails done!"

Aparantly she was found by a community police officer in a salon. When her picture did not match that on the badge, and she admitted that the person pictured was dead, the officer did his duty. In court however, she discovered just how lucky she was, she was only fined £250. Had this case come up in Manchester, for instance, it would probably been £1000 plus costs. Don't the Sussex magistrates realise how important it is to stamp out this sort of abuse?
