------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Disabled people happy and unhappy about how they are portrayed in the media
Last summer [2010], a worldwide online survey of disabled people was done to find out what they think about how they are represented in the media.
The 400 disabled people and organizations who responded said that television has become more empowering in its representation of disabled people. People were considerably more negative about the news media. Overwhelmingly, it was felt that news items were framed within a disempowering medical model of disability.

Consultations, Research & Surveys
Employment Champions
The Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability is a charity that is made up of twelve partner organisations who have joined together with funding from the Scottish Government to help people make the changes set out in the government policy “The same as you?”.
Currently SCLD has employed six individuals with learning disabilities as Employment Champions. Their role is to tell the story of their transition from education to employment and the barriers they have faced and overcome. They speak at events and conferences, often for Central and Local Government employers, and always to a very high standard.
The aim over the coming months is to introduce the Employment Champions to the wider employment market, highlighting the benefits and opportunities available to employers both in terms of equality and diversity, particularly in today’s job market.
The Employment Champions are available to speak at conferences and events either as individuals or as a group. They have each gained considerable experience from previous events and have become very skilled in their presentation. Each event or conference to date has given extremely positive feedback on these presentations, often leading to further engagements.
The Employment Champions attend events at no cost to the organiser since the aim of attendance is to promote awareness and benefits to employers as previously mentioned.
For more information contact Pauline McKenna on 0141 418 5420.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Poverty Alliance Review of Activities 2008-11
The Poverty Alliance is currently conducting a review of our core activities over the last three years. As you may be aware, we have been undertaken a wide range of activities over this time, including campaigning on living wages and welfare reform, organising seminars, conferences and debates, responding to consultations, network development, producing briefings and publications, lobbying politicians and providing opportunities for grassroots organisations to engage with policy makers.
We want to know how well you think we are doing, what we could do better and where we should focus some of our core activities in the coming three years.
You can access the survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/poverty_alliance_review
The results of the review will help us develop our work plan for the next three years and will inform the bids we put to our funders, particularly the Scottish Government. Alongside this work we are also carrying out focus groups to collect more views on what our priorities ought to be for the future. All of the responses will help us shape our work in the challenging times that lie ahead.
Please ensure your response reaches us by Thursday 16 December 2010.

Take part in a Survey on Terms and Conditionsin the Voluntary Sector
Over the past couple of years, voluntary sector organisations have come under increasing pressure to reduce costs and make efficiency savings. This survey aims to find out:
- The extent to which voluntary sector organisations have had to reduce terms and conditions of employment
- The reasons behind any changes
- The impact that this has on the workforce and on service delivery
Why take part?
By taking part in the survey, you will be helping to gather evidence about the impact that reduction in terms and conditions can have on the workforce and service delivery. A report will be published in early 2011. We will then be able to present this evidence to national policy makers.
Who should answer this survey?
Voluntary Sector HR managers / directors
Chief Executives / Area Managers / Service Managers
Is it anonymous?
Yes, all replies will be treated in the strictest confidence. The final research report will ensure that all findings are completely anonymous.
Deadline
The survey will close on Wednesday 8th December.
Any Questions?
If you have any queries about this project please contact caroline.sturgeon@ccpscotland.org or phone 01786 849 752.

This research will inform the work of our Hate Crime Policy Officer. Any input you provide will be valuable in shaping the outcomes of this research.

Disabled People's Panel - The real cost of disability
How much more does it cost to live as a disabled person? What are the extra things that need paying for? And do the benefits and allowances you receive really cover them?
We’d like you to help us answer these questions in our latest survey: “the real cost of disability”. The Disabled People's Panel is designed to help Scope and ComRes understand the views and experiences of disabled people. The data we collect is used to make sure disabled people’s voices are heard by politicians, the media, companies and other decision makers.
Please help us by sparing just 10-15 minutes to answer a series of questions about your experiences.
Complete the survey now
The research will be conducted according to the Market Research Society's Code of Conduct and your responses will remain completely anonymous.
