For further details, and to book onto an event, please visit: Oxfordshire UnlimitedHave you ever heard of us? If not read on. It may be a very useful piece of information for you. In fact we would like your help in identifying problems that affect disabled people. Such as no access to shops or leisure activities, the examples are numerous. If you are not disabled you may know someone who is, so ask them their opinion. Unlimited is a user led organisation that is controlled by it's members and supported by Oxfordshire County Council. We focus on enabling people with physical and sensory difficulties to do what anyone without such difficulties would do in the community. We campaign to resolve highway, transport, education, social and community services, public amenities and many more issues of community life. Unlimited are actively working to ensure that people have equality of opportunity and can travel with confidence. Would you like to become a member of Unlimited and join us in this work?

Rachel Biles PRESS RELEASE, 20th June 2011 British Sign Language is probably the best language in the world! British Sign Language (BSL) is like no other language you have ever learned before. It is not about signing one word after the other, but using your hands, face and upper body with movement and space to convey meaning. Learn about this beautiful and expressive language in a fun and friendly environment. This course will get you started on your sign language journey. Who knows where it may lead? You may learn BSL for fun. You will make great new friends on the course and meet together at Deaf-related events to support each other, as well as having the tutor’s support. BSL is also great for communicating with babies, as babies can sign before they speak, so you can communicate with baby before they speak to lessen their frustrations. By learning at the centre, everyone can become involved in the social events by being part of the Oxford Deaf Club, Hard of Hearing Club, Deaf Church and the Oxford Deaf Children’s Society. All these clubs are based at the Oxford Centre. These additional social activities provide an invaluable learning experience that cannot be found elsewhere. For the more advanced candidates who want to experience a rich BSL environment, it might be possible to arrange a work placement at the Deaf Centre. At Oxford Deaf & Hard of Hearing Centre, we offer British Sign Language (BSL) Levels 1, 2 and 3 and are accredited by Signature, the awarding body. These courses are a fun way of learning the language, with the possibility of using it in a professional capacity, such as becoming a sign language interpreter or working with Deaf people. Deaf Direct will provide Deaf Awareness training sessions at Oxford Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre for anyone who works with Deaf people and anyone who wants to know more about deafness.
