Natural England for people, for places, for nature
Natural England is the Government’s outdoors agency and has a responsibility to promote access, recreation and public well-being, today and for future generations. On our Outdoors for All web pages you can find more information about events on our National Nature Reserves and details on accessibility to the most popular reserves. You can also read our diversity review and use the links to find publications, research and case stories. A Sense of Freedom is a collection of personal stories from disabled people, with a range of impairments, about their experiences in the natural environment. It aims to raise awareness amongst recreation providers, disabled people and their carers, about the social and health benefits that disabled people experience from accessing the natural environment, along with some of the barriers that they face. The action research project By All Means -Kent tested whether a measurable increase in the level of access to Kent's countryside routes and sites could be achieved through working closely with disabled people and their representative organisations through all phases of planning, development and management. By All Reasonable Means is a framework for good practice in working with disabled people to improve and increase their access to the outdoors. Natural England is committed to championing equality of opportunity to access the natural environment. We want people to make the natural environment an enriching part of their daily lives. We work with others to improve the access quality of natural places and to increase the number and diversity of people inspired by and enjoying the natural environment. Our Diversity Review investigated what could be done to support the participation in outdoor recreation by these groups which can also be found on our Outdoors for All page.
