Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust & NHS Direct Wales - Information and Links The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust (WAST) was established in 1998 and currently employs more than 2,500 staff across three regions covering North, Central and West and South East Wales. The Trust provides ambulance services for both emergency and non-emergency patients across Wales through its Emergency Medical Service (EMS), which provides emergency, urgent and unscheduled care services, and the Patient Care Service (PCS), which provides non-emergency patient transport to and from hospitals, clinics and other locations of care. The Trust operates over 580 emergency and other ambulance vehicles and deals with over a quarter of a million emergency incidents a year. In April 2007, NHS Direct Wales became part of the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust. NHS Direct Wales is a health advice and information service available 24 hours a day, every day.
